Sri Narayan Kavach (The armor of Lord Narayan) – Srimad Bhagavatam 6 Canto Chapter 8 – Sri Narayan Kavacha Shield

Some devotees think that reciting Narayan Kavach is violating the principle of relying on the Holy Name….but the fact is that Sri Narayan Kavach is part of Srimad Bhagavatam…Srimad Bhagavatam is nothing but chanting the Holy Name of Lord…and even if one read Sri Narayan Kavach, it is nothing but chanting of Holy Names as various Names of Sri Krsna is called upon for protection.

If one should completely rely on Holy Name and should not recite Narayan Kavach, then one can argue that why we do all invocation prayers, why do we offer bhoga prayers, why pranam prayers, and why recite Bramha Samhita prayers and other prayers, why recite the prayers of queen Kunti, Gopi Geet, Venu Geet, Sri Narsimha Prayers…isn’t Holy Name alone sufficient…but we do that as it is all bonafide and is also same as chanting the Holy Names of Sri Krsna.

The above doubts arise in the minds of people who enter into hindu religion from other religions. A pure devotee will not have any doubt like this. Srimadbhagavatam is the only best guidance to reach the feet of our Almighty. Many people interpret the vedas and puranas according to their whims and fancies. The inner conscious will guide the devotees better.

  2. are there any special prerequisites or rituals to be performed before or during the recital of this kavach?should it be recited only in front of lord narayans picture or statue,or can it be recited in any place/room?
