Rādhārāṇī Braja Yatra 2012: Day 14:Nandghat, Basai, Nandghat-Bhaygaon,
Sei-Vatsavan

Today we started from Gangrol and we came to Nandghat. Gangrol is also called Gangroli or Jahnivan. Gangaji performed austerity here to have the darshan of Śrī Kṛṣṇa. Nanda baba wanted to take Ganga snāna. Śrī Kṛṣṇa brought him here to Uttarayan where Gangaji also received Kṛṣṇa’s darshan.

Ganga was Ananga manjari, Śrīji’s little sister. She was married to Kṛṣṇa. The Brajabāsīs think that this is the village of Garga Acarya, but his original village is Gidoh near the Yamuna.

Here with the touch of Kṛṣṇa’s feet, the Ganges gets her wish and darshan.

Basai
Nanda baba used to come and stay here with his cows for the summer time. In the Garga Samhita and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam describe this pastime.

Once he went for a Yamuna snāna after having fasted for Ekadāsī. But he went at an inauspicious time in the night, not in the early morning, so Varunadeva came and took him away. Yasoda maiya began to cry, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, knowing the situation, said to Yasoda, “Do not worry.” Then He went to Varuna Puri.
Varuna bowed down to Kṛṣṇa and offered many prayers and asked for forgiveness. Kṛṣṇa was pleased and brought Nanda baba back.

Nanda baba saw all the opulence of Varuna Puri and Śrī Kṛṣṇa as being Supreme. When he came back, the Brajabāsīs asked and baba told them everything that he saw. Now everyone made a request to Kṛṣṇa, “Since You are God, please show us Vaikuntha.” In the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and Garga Samhita this story is there, but the Garga Samhita has it in detail.
Śrī Kṛṣṇa took them and showed them Vaikuntha where Nārāyaṇa was sleeping on Śeṣayī(bed of snakes).
There everyone saw lots of aiśvarya. Brajabāsīs saw but after all, being simple village people, were amazed at this Kingdom. They felt like talking to Kṛṣṇa, but there all the servants would not even let them get close to the Lord. They thought our Braja is far better where we can play, talk and have fun with our Kṛṣṇa.

They saw that “There was no Yamuna, no Girirāja, no forests and greenery like our Braja. He doesn’t even have a flute, how can we hear His sweet sounds?” He then brought them back after giving them darshan of Vaikuṇṭha.

The cowherd men were brought by Lord Kṛṣṇa to the Brahma-hrada, made to submerge in the water, and then lifted up. From the same vantage point that Akrūra saw the spiritual world, the cowherd men saw the planet of the Absolute Truth.

Rupa, Jiva and Sanatan Gosvami
Here in Bhaygaon there was a small cave where Jiva Gosvāmī used to stay and pray while he was here.

Once there was a learned person, who came to Rupa Gosvāmī to debate on scriptural topics. Rupa Gosvāmī was busy with his prayers so he said, “Ok I do not want to argue, but I will write down that you have won.” The pandit was so pleased declaring publically of his victory. Jiva, who was the disciple of Rupa Gosvāmī felt bad that because he knew how highly learned his guru was.
Jiva Gosvāmī met that scholar and said, “It is not possible for you to defeat Rupa Gosvāmī, I am his disciple and if you can defeat me then I will accept.” Jiva then in moments defeated this proud scholar.
If the disciple could do then what to speak of the guru! However, Rupa Gosvāmī was upset and told Jiva to leave. He said, “You did not see Kṛṣṇa in him? Every person has Kṛṣṇa in him, I do not want to see your face from now on, You can leave.”

Jiva, greatly saddened, left and came to this place Nandghat-Bhaygaon. As he lived there he would not even ask for a roti, he would just mix some flour in water and eat at times. He wanted to end his life because his guru had rejected and left him.

Once Sanātana Gosvāmī came to this place while travelling around Braja. He was asking for some rotis, and one Brajabāsī lady said, “Our baba is better, he doesn’t even want roti.” Sanātana wanted to meet this sadhu and was directed to Jiva. Then when he saw Jiva Gosvāmī, Sanātana Gosvāmī blessed him. Jiva Gosvāmī cried and told him the whole story.

Sanātana Gosvāmī was the elder brother to Rupa Gosvāmī and he went and talked to Rupa Gosvāmī and asked him, “When you said to Jiva about the pandit, that Kṛṣṇa was in him then don’t you think Śrī Jiva also has Kṛṣṇa in him? How did you forget?” Rupa Gosvāmī realized his mistake, invited Jiva back, hugged him, and they were reunited.

Sei-Vatsavan

In the Brahmā Purana there is the mantra to pray here. Here is the place where Brahmā fell into illusion and thought, “How can this little boy can be God?”

When Kṛṣṇa killed Aghāsura, the news even went to Svargaloka. At that time they were all herding the cows and having lunch together, laughing, eating, and having fun. Kṛṣṇa was even eating from His friend’s plate.

Looking at this Brahmā thought, “How can this be God? After killing Aghāsura then how can this be?” At that time Kṛṣṇa was so little and took special care of the calves. So after lunch the cowherd boys could not find their calves. Kṛṣṇa said, “I will get them.” When He could not find them, He realized that this was Brahmā’s doing. When He went back, He saw that Brahmā had even taken his friends.

Kṛṣṇa then expanded His own form into the calves and cowherd boys. After that short period Brahmā returned to see what had happened. In Brahmā’s time this was for a moment, but in earthly time this was one year.

What did he see? Everything was as usual. Everyday Kṛṣṇa goes with all the cows and calves to the pasturing grounds. However the attraction the mother cows had and the mothers of the cowherd boys had increased unlimitedly. Even Dauji didn’t know what had happened.

Previously, from the very beginning, the gopīs hadmotherly affection for Kṛṣṇa. Indeed, their affection for Kṛṣṇa exceeded even their affection for their own sons. In displaying their affection, they had thus distinguished between Kṛṣṇa and their sons, but now that distinction disappeared.

Kṛṣṇa told Him what had transpired and later even Brahmā was able to see Kṛṣṇa everywhere.

One Acarya– When Brahmāji came to check out the scene, Kṛṣṇa made Himself Brahmā and went to Brahmāloka and told his servants to not let that ‘other imposter Brahmā’ to enter. Brahmā himself could not enter his own palace. Then Brahmā realized his mistake and went to beg Śrī Kṛṣṇa for forgiveness and made many prayers to the Lord.

Here Brahmā saw the chatur-buja svarūpa darshan in the calves and cowherd boys.

Brahmā was in such a state that he did not know what to do. He opened his eyes very slowly and then he saw madhurya in Vrindaban, where everyone and everything is prema-mayi, everywhere there is madhurya.

This chapter is very hard to understand in detail, but I have told in short.

Śrī Kṛṣṇa said to Brahmā, “You are very learned, but you can not understand Me. You have performed a great sin. Go and perform Braja parikrama, that will be your atonement.” Brahmā then did parikrama, three times around Braja.

In the Garga Samhita it is stated how Garga Ṛṣi knew that all the gwalbals are Kṛṣṇa, so he said, “Let all the kids get married now, so lots of gopis were married to Kṛṣṇa.” This is how in Braja, it is always svakīya (relationship in formal marriage). In a hidden way, there is no parakīya (relations outside of marriage) in Braja.
